Suunto introduces new models of Suunto Core
Suunto, the world leader in sports instruments, celebrates the 10th anniversary of Suunto outdoor sports instruments by introducing two new models of the Suunto Core: Suunto Core Alu Black and Suunto Core All Black.
Suunto Core is the ultimate sports instrument for any adrenaline-packed outdoor activity. It gathers a range of accurate data and information to aid users when exploring the wilder parts of the world. Its advanced ABC functions (altimeter, barometer, and compass) are combined with other useful features like a depth meter, sunrise and sunset times, and a menu in four languages. The storm alarm and altitude difference measurement assist in navigation, resulting in better safety in extreme conditions.
The rugged Suunto Core All Black has the right combination of looks and features to meet harsh outdoor conditions in style. The Suunto Core Alu Black's design reminds its owners that, even in more subdued environments, outdoor adventure is never far away.
"Since the beginning, 72 years ago, when avid outdoorsman Tuomas Vohlonen invented the first liquid-filled compass, Suunto's goal has been to make accurate, reliable, and easy-to-use sports instruments. This approach has resulted in a string of innovations over the years, including the launch of the legendary Suunto Vector in 1998. As the world's first wristop to make it to the top of Mt Everest, it paved the way for outdoor sportspeople all over the world, " explains Petteri Hernelahti, Category Manager for Suunto Outdoor.
One enthusiastic Suunto Core user is Swiss Ueli Steck, who in February broke the speed record for climbing the north face of the Eiger, the Alps' most famous wall. Ascending the Heckmair route of the north face, Steck started a log with his Suunto Core outdoor wristop computer, using it to measure his time and altitude progress as he raced up the 1800 m (5904 feet) high wall.
Ueli's Suunto Core monitored the altitude as he ascended at an amazing average rate of 10.8 vertical meters per minute. He set a new record of 2hr 47min 33sec.
In May, Steck received the first ever annual Eiger Award for his new record, his mountaineering in general, his personality, and for his selfless actions in a rescue operation on Annapurna earlier in May.
In June, Suunto Core took the glory in one of the most renowned and hardest-fought international design competitions by winning the "red dot: best of the best" award at the red dot design competition in Germany. Last December, the US magazine Men's Journal recognized Suunto Core with the Gear of the Year award.
